Hails Angels Custom Creations

Brooke from Hails Angels Custom Creations designed the PERFECT nursery for her baby girl!
I love this nursery so much, let me count the ways...
The crystal chandelier, for one!
The  elegant, coral pink initials surrounded by 3-dimensional flowers...
The custom hand-made bedding:
the clean and simple yet elegant white bumper
and blue and pink dust ruffle.
The blue walls for a girl!
I also love this shade of coral pink for the pops of color throughout the room.
The letter 'H' to match the window valence,
and custom doll handmade by Brooke.
And of course the simple, white wall decal and
coral nightstand with crystal lamp on top...
Like I said, PERFECTION!  And lucky me, I got to make a growth chart for this beautiful nursery!!!  Trust me, I felt a LOT of pressure to make it worthy enough to find a place on the wall of this room!

I think it'll look great in her room!!!

Stay tuned for more from Hails Angels and like her page on facebook!!!  There may be a new surprise in store from Hails Angels and Kidspired Creations!!!

Hoo! Hoo! An Owl Bedroom for Two!

Last May, I painted a growth chart and letters for new baby girl Kennedy's butterfly nursery!  Well, Kennedy just became a big sister the week before Thanksgiving to TWIN GIRLS, Kate and Klaire!  I was beyond thrilled to paint letters and growth charts for our dear friends' new bundles of joy!  I was also super excited to paint decor for an OWL-THEMED room!

How cute is this bedding??????  So cute that my sister, after helping me paint the growth charts, decided to get this bedding for her baby too!

Girls Can Hunt, Too!!!

Well, this was definitely a first... a request for a Max 4 Advantage camouflage growth chart... with some PINK thrown in it!  I'm not gonna lie, I was a bit scared that I wasn't going to be able to pull this one off.  I didn't even know what Max 4 Advantage meant!  For those of you who are still clueless:
Max 4 Advantage Camo
My first thought?  How on EARTH do I paint that?  My second thought?  I must find this pattern on paper or fabric and decoupage it for the best effect.  So I began my hunt and I stumbled upon some matching scrapbook paper... jackpot!  Though I'm new at decoupaging, I really enjoy it and have quickly learned how to avoid bubbles or tears in the paper.  I find it just as relaxing as painting, maybe even more so.  I threw in some pink for each of the "foot" markers and of course, a Louisiana favorite:  the hunting fleur de lis in HOT PINK.  I LOVE how it turned out!!!

And though this is pink, it can also easily be made to suit a boy's camo room.

Jungle Love

Well, it's no secret that I love jungle themes!  I just want to share with you the latest growth chart that I painted for my cousin's son, Brian.  It's very similar to the NoJo Jungle Babies themed growth chart, but this one matches the Lambs and Ivy Cocoa nursery crib bedding:

And good news for those of you not in the Southern Louisiana or Central Oklahoma areas:  I am now experimenting with doing growth charts in 2 or 3 segments so they are easy to ship!  They are still really heavy, so shipping will be anywhere from $15-$20 (I apologize for that), but at least shipping is now possible!!!

Madame Butterfly

Our good friends Kris and Debbie asked me to make their baby (in-the-belly at the time) a growth chart for her nursery.  I always feel so honored to be a small part of the nesting process!  So, Debbie sent me a few pictures of baby Kennedy's nursery...

Well, now I'm gonna let y'all in on a little secret... I have a surprise for new Mommy and Daddy of baby Kennedy!  After seeing a picture of the room, I was inspired to make one more thing for them that was inspired by this picture...

I absolutely LOVE the wall decals that they put on the wall, but can't you just imagine Kennedy's name in the middle of the arch of butterflies???  So Kris... Debbie... Kennedy...
SURPRISE!!!

This is the only way I could get them both fully in a picture :-)
Love you guys!  Can't wait to see you in Oklahoma this weekend!!!

Measure by Measure

Kids grow up too fast.  I know for my boys, they had outgrown some of their newborn clothes by birth.  Those 2T clothes that I packed away out of my 3-year-old's closet just got pulled back down for my 18-month-old's wardrobe.  Boys can't really get away with midriffs and capris like girls can.  It can be really exciting when you go to that wellness check and can see the month-to-month progress of your baby's growth and you reflect on all of your baby's milestones.

In my case, my son actually got smaller between his 15-month and 18-month check ups.  Perhaps he does squirm a little too much when they try to pin him down to measure his length because I know for sure that he has grown out of all of his winter clothes already (hence why he was wearing shorts yesterday when it was 60 degrees in May in Louisiana).  But, we're talking about GROWTH here.

In honor of Leyson growing out of his 18-month clothes, I wanted to share some more growth charts with you!

I already posted pictures of Peyton's sports-themed growth chart, but I wanted to share the kidspiration that inspired it.  Peyton has a comforter that will last him a long time.  No matter if he is in to cars or Buzz Lightyear or super heroes, his multi-colored quilted comforter can transform to fit different room themes.  I did know that Peyton was a sports fan, so I decided to subtly highlight that when creating his growth chart.

Peyton's sisters were also getting growth charts and while they weren't sharing a room at the time, there was a possibility that they would one day.  I decided to paint their growth charts to match Evie's comforter in case Riley bunked with her.  I didn't want them to be the exact same, but I wanted them to look cute together.  I used two different shades of green on Evie's to match her bedding, then instead of green, used 2 different shades of pink for Riley's and alternated the patterns.

For Ellie's room, I got to choose the kidspiration to work with.  I fell in love with a little plaque that she had on her wall and I wanted to paint her growth chart to match.

Note:  I did not paint this plaque.

Gustav Gives Me an Idea

Crista's apartment after Gustav
In 2008, Hurricane Gustav caused massive damage to islands in the Caribbean before coming to Louisiana and leaving its mark here as well.  At the time my family was living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana's capital, and because the kids were so young, we decided to evacuate to Oklahoma in case we lost electricity for an extended period of time.  Bo and I assumed no one else had the same idea to leave in the middle of the night like we did.

Well, we weren't the only ones who decided to leave; it took us close to 12 hours to get to the Texas border outside of Shreveport in North Louisiana (normally a 4 1/2 hour drive for us).  We really didn't imagine that Gustav would be as big of a threat to the city as it was.

Our neighbors were giving us updates on our house which, despite a huge branch falling off of our tree, was fine.  Our neighborhood lost electricity so we stayed in Oklahoma for over a week until it came back on.

My sister, Crista, wasn't so lucky.  The ceiling in her apartment caved in and she lost the majority of her things.  Unfortunately for her, her bedroom specifically got the most damage out of the entire apartment complex... of course.  Good thing she made the last minute choice to evacuate too!

The best thing was that everyone we knew was safe!

The 2nd best thing was the amount of salvage wood that I found lying around!  I ran around my neighborhood gathering tons the fence panels that people were now bringing to the side of the road.  Neighbors were happy that I was taking their debris off their hands because they city was taking a very long time to clean everything up.

And here the growth chart was born :-)

I made my first few growth charts from fence panels that were freed by the hurricane.  Though they were free for me to make, they were really difficult to paint clean lines on because of the natural, bumpy wear of the wood.  I now use store-bought wood that is can be used for shelving.
